CalSEED awards $4.2 million in grants to early-stage clean energy innovations

Hago Energetics, Inc. was selected to be one of the 28 early-stage clean energy companies. Hago Energetics, Inc. aims to help farms become more profitable by converting farm waste to high-value products, such as hydrogen and valuable carbons. They break down organic matter, such as food scraps and animal waste, in conditions with no oxygen to produce a biogas that is later decomposed to hydrogen and carbon; this hydrogen is expected to sell at a lower cost and lower carbon footprint than the current methods.

Our Goals

We aim to help our planet to fight global warming and create a better future by helping farmers and their farms become more profitable by converting farm waste to high-value products, such as hydrogen and valuable carbons like biochar that will benefit their crops.

Our Pilot:

Our pilot conducted at Harris Ranch Feedlot converted cow manure to fuel cell grade hydrogen. 

This pilot is finished and we are working on scaling up the technology to produce several tons of hydrogen per day.

Hydrogen Fuel Advantages in Transportation

Zero Emissions

Tailpipes on hydrogen fuel cell–powered vehicles produce only heat and clean water, no pollutants.

Efficient

Hydrogen-powered vehicles have hydrogen fuel cells, which convert energy to electricity more efficiently. Fuel cells convert a fuel’s chemical energy to electrical energy and can be two to three times more efficient than internal combustion engines.

Quiet

Fuel cells make the vehicle more efficient and quieter, because there are fewer vibrations from moving parts.

Longer Distance

Hydrogen fuel allows vehicles to travel longer distances with less refueling, so it is ideal for fueling heavy-duty tractor trailers and public transit buses, which travel hundreds of miles at a time.
